Marine
Safety and Environmental Protections function is to "Protect the "Protect the
public, the environment and US interests through the prevention and mitigation
of maritime incidents." The five areas of emphasis are:

In-House Abatement
The Auxiliary assists the Coast Guard's Marine Safety Offices (MSOs)/Detachments with public education, support of pollution prevention activities, environmental disaster relief operations, port safety and security inspections, container inspection assistance, mariner licensing/documentation/course audits, area contingency planning, and other assistance as needed.
